Reloading the pen with ink

There was so much more to Kevin Skogley's win on Friday than the box score shows.
The 7 1/3 innings the left-hander ate up saved manager John Masserelli some serious angst in a 7-3 win over Rockford.
After using relievers to register 26 of the 27 outs the night before, a long outing is just what the doctor ordered for Lake Erie.
And that's what Mazz got out of his tall lefty, who probably would have gone a little longer had he not got into a pickle in the eighth.
No worries, Brian Chambers came in and gobbled up the last 1 2/3 innings to save some arms.
With two more days to go before an offday, those arms need the rest.
What's even worse is the fact that after Monday, Lake Erie will play 24 straight games before getting a day off. That would be July 2, so saving some bullpen pitching came in handy.
It wouldn't be a bad thing to see Brent Lysander and Paul Fagan go deep in their starts over the weekend either.
Massarelli has said he won't judge his team until it is 30 games into the 96-game schedule.
No doubt saving a few arms will make his view a little more clear.
